Preparing for kindergarten

28 January 2016

Beginning kindergarten is an exciting time for you and your child. It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to develop self-esteem, confidence and a love of learning before they start their formal education. Here’s some tips to support a smooth transition to kindergarten for you and your child.

Arrive early

Arrive with plenty of time to settle your child into kindergarten. Take the time to say goodbye to your child and remind them what time you'll be back to pick them up.

What to bring on your first day

  • A healthy morning tea and lunch in a clearly labelled lunch box/bag
  • A clearly labelled drink bottle
  • A broad-rimmed hat (caps and visors are not suitable)
  • Appropriate footwear for playing
  • Clothing that is suitable for playing outdoors in the sun (i.e. cool but covering as much skin as possible)
  • If your child has sensitive skin, please bring your own sunscreen.

Preparing a healthy lunch box

A healthy lunch box full of fresh food gives your child the energy to concentrate, learn and play all day. Try one of these resources for lunch box ideas:
