Early Start Kindergarten and Pre-Prep
Australian and international evidence shows that two years of quality early learning and a longer program in the year before school lead to better outcomes for children and prepares them better for school. Access to quality early childhood education will benefit all children, families, and communities.

What is Early Start Kindergarten?
Early Start Kindergarten gives children the head start they need.
Early Start Kindergarten provides up to 15 hours of free or low-cost kindergarten per week to eligible three-year-old children where programs are offered by a qualified teacher.

What is Pre-Prep?
Pre-Prep means more hours of free kindergarten in the year before school. Four-Year-Old Kindergarten is gradually transitioning to Pre-Prep, with programs across Victoria increasing from 15 to 30 hours each week.

ECMS acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live, learn, work and play. Aboriginal people have a long tradition of teaching and learning through sharing their connections with country, community, language and culture. We recognise their continuing connection to the country, and we pay respects to elders past and present.
