Koomail Tardy is the First Nations name now officially applied to what was briefly known as Truganina South East Family Centre. Koomail translates to ‘grass used for weaving’ and Tardy means ‘sister’. The name was put forward by the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation in response to Wyndham City Council’s request to recognise the cultural heritage of the area.
ECMS Community Liaison Officer Erica Grubb reports she is already fielding regular enquiries from various local groups interested in hiring the centre’s indoor spaces. This augers well for Koomail Tardy Community Centre‘s future as a high quality, in-demand facility serving the needs of Truganina’s residents, beyond young families utilising the already at-capacity 3 and 4 your old kindergarten program.
