Oakhill Kindergarten

At Oakhill Kindergarten, we believe children learn through play. Your child will learn best when their play is meaningful, based on their interests and focused on the here and now. Play will give your child the opportunity to explore ideas, their identity and physical self, relationships with others and the world. Your child will benefit from a rich, inclusive learning environment where they are encouraged to develop a sense of belonging, security and ownership in their surroundings.

We work and program according to the ‘Belonging, Being, Becoming’ Australian National Learning and Development Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development framework. Your child’s ideas, knowledge, culture, abilities and interests form the foundation of our program, with input from you and educators.

As educators, we aim to facilitate and extend your children’s learning and provide a kindergarten program that is meaningful, diverse, holistic, vibrant and child-centred. As professionals, we believe in continuous improvement through regular professional development as well as reflection and evaluation of our work. We believe it's essential to work in partnership with families, the most significant people in a child's life. We value the knowledge you bring and embrace your contribution and participation in our program and planning.

Facilities and programs

We'll promote your child's educational, social and linguistic, emotional and physical development. We recognise and celebrate the fact that all children are unique. To reflect this, our program is designed for all learning styles and abilities. We believe children learn best by doing, so we provide a balance between structured and informal, child-initiated and adult supported experiences that enable children to use a variety of equipment and materials inside and outdoors.

We empower all children and families to have a voice in our program.  We encourage spontaneous learning that stems from your child’s ideas, interests or a special skill you or your family may wish to share. If an activity is a great success, we will often extend on this experience to further explore children's learning potential. Alternatively, if something is not enjoyed as much as we hoped, we may not continue to offer this experience or may alter it to reflect children's needs.
