Thinking Kids Children’s Centre community giving and graduation celebrations

Children and families at Thinking Kids Children's Centre in Parkville have been supporting those in need by donating to the centre’s Christmas food drive.

Children and families embraced the initiative wholeheartedly, and the boxes were overflowing with goodies when Foodbank Victoria collected them this week.

‘It’s such a great charity to support,’ says Centre Director Michelle Belli.

‘And the joy on the children's faces, when they are giving to people in need, is just priceless. Nothing compares to teaching the children about being kind, giving and the struggles of people less fortunate.’

Thank you to all families who have supported this initiative.

Also at Thinking Kids this month, the kindergarten graduation went off with a bang. Children, families and educators enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of singing, celebration, afternoon tea and a silent auction of children’s colourful artwork.

Best of luck to all the children as the start their new adventure in Prep next year.

Altona Kindergarten Children learn at their local beach

Children from our Altona Kindergarten have enjoyed visiting their local beach during kinder time recently.

The beach excursions have been a great opportunity for children to learn about water safety and sea life, connect with their local environment, and practise their literacy and numeracy skills by writing in the sand and counting objects on the beach.

St Vincent’s Early Learning Centre’s sustainability challenge

As a creative and fun way to educate children about sustainable practices and recycling, children at St Vincent’s ELC are participating in a challenge to create a soccer ball using recycled plastic bags and string donated by families. The room that creates a ball first (and one that can bounce) will win.

Centre Director, Sarah Kleine, observed children making these recycled soccer balls from plastic bags found on rubbish heaps while volunteering in Africa.

This project follows on from St V’s partnership with an orphanage in Malawi, Africa. The partnership involved children making dolls from recycled materials and sending these to children in the orphanage, along with letters and books.

The project has strengthened children’s understanding of diversity, the world around them, community partnerships, teamwork and more.
