Koorie Kids Early Years Package

26 November 2015

The Gathering Place Aboriginal Medical Corporation, in partnership with the Australian Government, has created a Koorie Early Years Package. The package, which is designed for Koorie children aged 0-6 and their families to engage in learning together, introduces Koorie children to letters, letter sounds, counting, numbers and number recognition. The package includes a CD and two Aboriginal designed posters of the alphabet and the numbers 1 - 20.

The CD begins with Aunty Zeta Thomson, Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta Elder, expressing the importance of giving our children a cultural education journey and encouraging families to explore creative ways to do so.

The Koorie Early Years Package will available free to Koorie families in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The package will also be available for early years services to purchase as a tool to incorporate Aboriginal cultural materials within their settings.

ECMS is proud to be a supporter of this package alongside the Department of Education and Training. ECMS will also be launching an Indigenous playgroup at Werribee West Family Centre next year in partnership with the Gathering Place. Further details on the playgroup will be released in the new year.
