ECMS Kindergarten Teacher Julie from Newport Gardens Early Years Centre tells us about one of her group's favourite books, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud.
What’s Have You Filled a Bucket Today? about?
It encourages positive behaviour as children see how easy and rewarding it is to be kind, appreciate each other and love each day.
What do the children learn by reading this book?
It really reinforces the importance of being kind and how a simple gesture of a smile or a, "Can you play with me?" can make somebody feel good.
At the end of the reading the story, we had a group discussion, and the children were excited to start filling each other's buckets. And we've all decided we are all going to carry an invisible bucket, and at the end of the day, talk about how we filled someone's bucket up.
What do children love about this book?
They really enjoy learning about the invisible bucket. And that you don't need to have a real bucket to fill someone's bucket. They enjoy hearing how to be positive and fill someone's bucket.
