How families can be involved

Parental involvement ... is the key to lasting learning for children!

Parental involvement enhances the delivery of our early childhood service and program in many ways:

  • The preschool is managed by the parent committee in partnership with ECMS. The Committee plays a vital role in the day to day running of the preschool. Without a committee we would not be able.

  • Fundraising, which assists with the purchase of equipment to ensure our children are kept up to date with the latest educational tools.

  • It is a great way to meet other parents and learn new skills. Anyone parent can be part of this team, no previous experience necessary.

  • We acknowledge and respect each families expert knowledge of their child.

Throughout the term, parents are invited to spend a session at preschool with children and staff. During this time parents are asked to participate in the program at a level which they feel comfortable. This may involve: supervising a table activity, reading stories to a small group of children, playing board games, cooking, program preparation, sharing your unique expertise and skills (cooking, gardening, graphic design, playing a musical instrument, carpentry, sport/ artistic skills)…etc. Children often feel proud when their parent is on duty; it also allows you to meet their friends, observe them interacting with other children and have lots of fun!

Please do not underestimate the importance of your help and participation. We really do appreciate the time you spend with us.

At Keilor Gatehouse Preschool we aim to develop a strong partnership with parents and recognise that child rearing is a joint endeavor between the family and the preschool. Such partnerships promote children’s overall development, self-esteem and long term achievement.
