Welcome to Altona West Kindergarten!

At Altona West Kindergarten we believe that children develop individually in a safe and nurturing environment. Our play based kindergarten program provides a safe, supportive and stimulating environment that fosters a desire to learn and explore.

We believe that giving children opportunities to be creative, independent and co operative develops a positive sense of self, an awareness and respect of others and an empathy for the world in which we all live.

The program is flexible and planned according to the children's interests, needs and strengths. We incorporate ideas from the children, their families, the local community and cultural events.

Altona West Kindergarten has a large outdoor play space with a vegetable garden, rabbits, chickens and worm farm. The children are encouraged and assisted to care for the animals and the gardens. Inside the kindergarten we have a large bright airy room with spaces for quiet play, messy play and noisy play.

Our program is based on four key beliefs that inform our practice:

1. Respect: we respect the world we live in and each person involved with our kindergarten.


2. Individuality: we value and promote individuality, creativity and freedom of expressions in a supportive and challenging environment.


3. Independence: we promote independence and encourage all efforts that build and develop social and emotional skills.


4. Environment: we believe that learning how to care for our environment can start at an early age.

We also offer an occasional care program on friday mornings, which can be booked per term.
