Kindergarten at Watts Street Children's Centre

What is kindergarten?

  • Kindergarten is a program for children in the year prior to starting primary school.

Why kindergarten?

  • Kindergarten gives children the opportunity to grow and develop through PLAY – the way children learn best.

  • Encourages and stimulates children’s development socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

  • Allows children to explore the environment, whilst developing their independence, confidence and self esteem.

  • Kindergarten assists children with their transition to school.

Our program:

  • Provides educational experiences including early literacy, numeracy, music, drama, art and science.

  • Empowers children to develop self esteem and confidence.

  • Provide opportunities for children to express themselves through language, art and imaginative play.

  • Encourages children to become more independent ensuring strong foundations for learning.

  • Includes family and community into the curriculum.

  • Assists children in developing a positive self-image to enable effective learning and development of positive social attitudes.

  • The children are taught responsibility, independence and sharing skills during routines throughout the day.

  • Teaches children to respect others, their environment, love for learning and investigating.

We aim to provide a developmental kindergarten program based on the needs and interests of the children.
